Making our nation more resilient

The Department of Climate Change and National Resilience (DCCNR) was established on 10 September, 2020. Its mission is to mitigate the impact of climate change and strengthen the resilient capacities of Nauru against the current crisis that we are experiencing in the Pacific.

There are a total of 24 dedicated employees led by the Secretary, working in 4 different divisions assigned to their respective Directors.

Energy Division

The Energy division at the DCCNR is responsible for the formulation, monitoring and review of national level energy policies, strategies, action plans and legislations.

Their goal is to provide a reliable, affordable, secure and sustainable energy supply to meet the socio economic development needs of Nauru.

Climate Action

The Climate Action division is committed to building a productive, healthy, sustainable and resilient Nauru to combat the effects of climate change.

Their work focuses on areas such as sea level rise, extreme weather events, flooding and coastal inundation.

Water

The Water division is committed to providing equal access to clean, safe and affordable water.

Beyond addressing water related challenges Nauru faces each day, it also enforces appropriate sanitation systems ensuring healthy communities.

Higher Ground Initiative

Higher Ground Initiative (HGI) is committed to pursue sustainable development actions and substantially increase resilience for Nauru.

Their mission is to migrate vulnerable homes and critical infrastructure to higher elevation, significantly expand local food production, restore degraded natural habitats and pioneer a new Pacific Island urbanism.
